Gurudwara guidelines

Out of respect for the Gurudwara (a Sikh Temple) and the Sikh religion, we kindly ask you to observe and follow the traditions that all guests are expected to follow when visiting a Gurudwara

  • No shoes are allowed inside; all guests will need to remove their shoes in the foyer before entering
  • Heads must be covered inside the Gurudwara. Bandanas and scarves will be provided if needed (hats and beanies don't count). Get in touch with us if you want to know more and have questions or concerns.
  • No alcohol, tobacco, vapes, or meat (not sure why you'd have that on you) are allowed inside the Gurudwara. Please leave these in the car or at home.
  • Dress code - All guests are expected to dress in formal, modest clothing that covers their shoulders, knees and legs (no shorts or short dresses). Guests will be seated cross-legged on the floor, so keep this in mind when choosing an outfit. A traditional indian outfit is not required (but always welcome)! Get in touch with us if you want to know more and have questions or concerns.
  • Some more information about what to expect when visiting a Gurudwara can be found here and here

Gifts

No gifts are necessary! But if you wish, there will be a wishing well at the Reception (not at the Temple)

In Between

In between the ceremony and the reception, there'll be a few hours free. Some things you can do:

  • Relax!
  • Wander about the city
  • The reception venue is on Sydney Road, so there are plenty of bars and cafes to visit in the meantime
  • The venue is co-located with Welcome to Brunswick, so you are also welcome to arrive a bit early and hang out in Welcome to Brunswick's beer garden

Reception

Time to eat, drink, dance and all round partay!
